Two bikers!

Had a great weekend with Gerard. On Sat we parked near Longfellow Bridge on Memorial Drive in Cambridge and rode in to Harvard Square for my regular Sat morn meeting (I took Gerard with me from the time he was 3 months old till he was a year and a half and so a lot of people know him. Now I just take him occasionally).

From there we rode to a kids fair on Marlborough St in the Back Bay. We were supposed to meet up with other kids/single parents from a group I joined on meetup.com No one else showed up and the fair was really geared for smaller kids but we had a good time eating lunch and listening to the band. Gerard got to get into a police car and use the siren which he loved of course (he also had a long chat with the officer that I wish I'd overheard!).

Then we rode through the North End to Charlestown under the Zakim Bridge to look at the locks that control the Charles River - we had to walk across one of the locks and Gerard didnt like it - he was afraid that it would open up and we'd fall in. Didnt help that his bike horn accidentally fell into the river! But he enjoyed playing with these "sound tubes" that had small rubber hammers that was similar to a huge xylophone. We hung out there for some time and then rode back to the car for a total of about 12 miles! Which is our longest ride so far. You can check out the route over here and pics from a ride last week over here (didnt take any of the two of us on Saturday but took other pics coming soon)

He didnt seem tired from the ride but he did get knocked out as soon as I put him to bed (after bath and stories as usual). And yesterday we did the walk for Autism, I think it was a 2 mile walk, with Evelyn, Nancy and Blair. He was disappointed that it wasnt a race. I had to sell it to him and told him it was a race...but he did have a good time. And it was important for him and me that we do something like this together because I would tell him about the races that I started doing this year and now it's something he can relate to.
