"New" car seat and booster seat guidelines from the American Academy of Pediatrics

Does anyone follow these guidelines from the American Association of Pediatrics? Two years ago they came out with new recommendations. Kids should be in rear facing carseats until two years of age and older kids should use a booster seat till they are either 12 years, or when they've reached 4 feet 9 inches.

I frequently see younger kids either without a booster seat and sometimes without a seat belt in the rear seat, and occasionally even sitting in the front seat. The comments in this article seem to indicate that some parents feel this is too burdensome for them to implement even though the consequences could put their kids " at risk for internal organ injury — intestines, liver and spleen — as well as spinal fractures.”

Which are Oscar Wilde's wittiest quotes?

My choices from the readers responses:

"I can resist everything except temptation."

"There's only one thing worse than being talked about, and that's not being talked about."

"Work is the curse of the drinking classes."

The best one: According to Yeats, Wilde said this of Shaw: "he has no enemies, but is intensely disliked by all his friends."

Neil Gaiman on why reading fiction is so important

Great article by Neil Gaiman on the role of libraries in developing a love of reading and why that is even more important today. He talks about how reading fiction - even stuff that some might consider trashy - is important, especially as a child.

How it creates a desire to read more, why that is important, and what role libraries have played and will continue to play.

Incredible images of a leopard attacking forest wardens in India

This took place in West Bengal where forest officials were called in because a leopard had escaped from a wild life sanctuary into a village.

The photographs were taken by Salil Bera who happened to be in the area. He learned from an official that "a leopard always lunges in the direction of the person who attacks him,” Bera says. “I kept that in mind.”

The leopard didn't do anything for 3 hours after the first attack and was thought to be dead, when he suddenly attacked again with a deafening roar. The forest official lived, but the leopard died.
